Pretty little quilt blocks

I had a lot of fun designing and piecing these quilt blocks for my quilt group friends in Wyoming. It is always so fun to sketch block design ideas and get those creative juices flowing. And seeing them come together is such a joy.

This beautiful autumn colored block is for Betty. The fabric has such pretty flowers and baskets I wanted to show off as much of it as I could.  I kept the design simple and and just added a few colors.

This pink and black block is for a breast cancer quilt that will be raffled off to raise money for the cause. I had this spinner block design I wanted to try out and thought this fabric was a perfect match.

This aqua and brown block is for Sue. The fabrics are so fun aren't they? This one I also made from a block pattern I had saved up.

This pretty green block is for Janis. I didn't really have any coordinating fabric in my stash so I chose to use just the two fabrics sent to me. I thought this simple, yet lovely Irish chain pattern looks just right.

This checkered sunflower block was a bit of a challenge. I was given the black and white checkered fabric and a little yellow for accent. My first thought was a checkered racing flag, LOL. I decided not to go down that road. My next thought was sunflowers, of course! I added the purple and green from my stash and I LOVE how it turned out!!

I love learning new quilt skills!  I had never made blocks like these before and I enjoyed the adventure. I discovered that a single quilt square is perfect for trying out new techniques. However I also learned that once I try something I want to go on to the next and so when I have to make a bunch of the same block I get a little bored... I think sampler quilts might be my thing.

Snowball baby quilt!

So excited I finished this quilt for my cute little niece.

I had so much fun making this adorable quilt. It took me some time as I was moving from place to place, but I was able to get it to her just after her 1st birthday.

I love how the quilting turned out. I haven't been able to practice my free motion quilting as much as I want and need to, but I am SO glad I went ahead and free motion quilted the swirls on the border. It makes me happy to see, and it's full of so much love and lots of wonderful mistakes :).

I love the colors! The fabric is Bliss by Moda. I used a charm pack (pre-cut 5" squares)   for the snowball blocks and aqua yardage for sashing and a little bit of a layer cake (pre-cut 10" squares) for the border.

I used minky dot fabric for the backing and flipped it onto the front for binding. The minky makes it SO soft and cuddly.

What I made my brother for Christmas

My brother is a HUGE Harry Potter fan and I drew his name for Christmas (2011). So with a limited budget, I set to work on some crafts I knew he would love!

Fluffy while owl ornament

Harry pillow

I got my owl inspiration from these cute guys I saw at the local nursery.

And the pillow I copied this idea from this picture my brother posted on Facebook. These pillows are made by a crafter in Brazil.

Argh Matey, a Jolly Roger craft!

For our family reunion we had a pirate theme. To get into the festivities I made our family some cute jolly roger tee shirts. I used freezer paper as a stencil. If you would like to make some fun freezer paper tee shirts too, follow this tutorial or this one.

I went online and found some cute jolly roger clip art and traced the image onto the freezer paper.
I used regular acrylic craft paint (like you can find at Wal-Mart) but fabric paint might be better. I was fine with how it turned out using the stuff I had on hand.

August Quilt Blocks

These are my two (I had enough fabric to make two) blocks for quilt group this month. I used my GO! cutter again. I really hope I can make it to quilt group this month because we are moving and I want to see everyone at quilt group before I go!

Dot, dot, dot, Stripe!

I had a lot of fun making this quilt! I love all the fabrics so much. The polka-dots and stripes are so cute and whimsical.

I made it for my little cutie :)

I used minky dot for the backing to make it extra soft and cuddly.

This dinosaur print I found at Jo-Ann's. It is so adorable.

Love the red fabric on the binding too.

It makes me happy just too look at it and even more happy to wrap around this cute boy!

Roundhouse Festival Quilt Show

Evanston's 15th annual Roundhouse Festival and quilt show at the Machine Shop and Roundhouse  Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011.

The festival was so fun and the quilts are beautiful!

That Halloween quilt is so adorable, I want one!

This quilt by Mary Hipol, is so fantastic, it was one of my favorites! I wish I had taken notes or something because I can not remember the exact name of this quilt. It is Wyoming and each image is shaped as a county and highlights landmarks, historic people and events as well as other icons of Wyoming.

And then for fun:
Here is Z by the quilt he and I made together :)
